Woman allegedly drugged, sexually assaulted for two days after fake job offer

A woman in Kerala’s Ernakulam district was allegedly drugged, held captive, and sexually assaulted over two days after she was lured to a private lodge with the promise of a job, police said. The woman had responded to an OLX advertisement for a spa manager’s position and was allegedly brought to the lodge in Edappally after being told she had been selected for the job.Kalamassery police have arrested Sreeraj, 30, from Alappuzha, and Jith Martin, 27, from Ernakulam, in connection with the case. Both were remanded in judicial custody on October 4. The woman, who sustained severe injuries, is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a local hospital.According to her husband, the woman attended an interview on the morning of October 2 and was informed that she had been selected for the job. She was later invited to an informal gathering at the said lodge in Edappally that evening.“She went there after informing me, and then we were unable to contact her. So I asked the neighbours to check, but no one was there in the house. The next evening, she called me and said she was in Edappally. By the time I reached home, she was there. Her face was swollen. She then told me what had happened,” he told the media.The suspects had allegedly mixed beer and narcotic substances into her drinks, causing her to lose consciousness. She was then held captive and sexually assaulted for two days, during which the accused allegedly recorded videos of the assault.The husband also said that her phone and other belongings had been taken from her. According to him, she escaped after threatening to die by suicide and attempting to harm herself with a broken beer bottle. “When other people had arrived there, she threatened to kill herself and tried to stab herself with the beer bottle. That was when they gave her the phone and her belongings,” he said.He also alleged that a woman was involved in this incident. He said his wife had gone to the location believing that the woman who had contacted her about the job would be there.
