There is no need to fear AI

LAST time I wrote about the upcoming AI revolution that will change human life. Recently, we heard a lot of news about the fear of AI. The fear is whether changing human intelligence to Artificial Intelligence, with or without human control, will result in unwanted consequences. The human soul will be lost if humans lose control over what is happening in the world. The human soul expresses its feelings, thoughts, opinions and outlooks and reacts accordingly for the benefit of themselves and humanity.  This is the fear that ultimate human culture, which is attitudes, beliefs and lifestyles, will change.

Recently, a Hollywood-style movie, Story of Odysseus,  was produced in four months on a laptop with a total cost of $25000. If this happens and the process is perfected, we need to close down Hollywood, Mollywood and the film-producing business everywhere. The human robots with AI will take over most of human labour, like doing household work, manufacturing, etc. There can also be killer robots. The manifestations of taking over human life bring fear. If not properly controlled, AI can be very unsafe, and there will be more hoaxes and scams not easily identified.

Recently, there have been cautions from CEOs of major AI companies in the world; while some talked bout slowing down the process, others talked against it. META CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, “Every lab has the responsibility and incentive to move at the pace required to train its models safely and the ability to take actions to ensure that happens.”

Zuckerberg added that most AI companies will need to focus on alignment, warning that those who fail to do so risk becoming irrelevant. “There is a lot of debate about slowing progress on capabilities until alignment catches up. He said: “My view is that trust and alignment are quickly becoming the most important capabilities that will differentiate agents and models. Any lab that doesn’t focus on alignment will fall behind."

OpenAI, a leading AI company, disclosed six new instances in which AI systems hid mistakes, made up data and moved files into the open internet without permission, amid an ongoing industrywide debate about AI safety. OpenAI said it did not believe the industry “has solved alignment and monitoring to a sufficient degree to continue responsibility scaling at maximum speed for much longer.”

AI leaders such as Dario Amodei, the chief executive of Anthropic, have called for a pause in the technology’s development to provide more time to build proper guardrails. Microsoft founder Bill Gates said that bioterrorism and massive unemployment are two things we need to worry about. He also said there may occur one or two major incidents when governments will be forced to react with actions to control or regulate AI.

Can AI be taught ethical behaviour like humans and taught rules and regulations so that the actual actions of all AI can be controlled? Unauthorised access can be denied. Everything is human-made, and therefore humans can put control on everything they create. Humans can create control over AI they created to prevent actions of fraud and creating unsafe conditions. That is why everybody insists on rules and controls on how to apply AI. What AI can do under a bad actor is the question. Humans who create these bad-actor AIs shall be caught and punished under the law to be created for the safety of AI applications. The human race should benefit from AI rather than fear of being destroyed.

AI development is going to continue with more caution, giving safety priority so that Artificial Intelligence will not try to surpass human intelligence. All the current discussions are a preview of the future. There is no need for fear; humans will find a way to make it safe.
