THE India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain and thunderstorms for Delhi on Friday, May 31st.

This is a relief to the national capital, enduring scorching heatwave conditions, with temperatures consistently hovering above 45 degrees Celsius recently.

The weather department has reported that the maximum temperature is anticipated to reach around 44 degrees Celsius today, with humidity recorded at 38 per cent as of 8:30 a.m.

According to the weather forecast, the minimum temperature will hover around 29 degrees Celsius throughout the day.

According to the IMD's forecast, the afternoon will likely bring a cloudy sky with the possibility of thunderstorms, dust storms, and very light rain or drizzle. These weather conditions are expected to be accompanied by gusty winds, with speeds ranging from 25 to 35 kmph.

The weather forecast shows similar weather conditions are likely over the next two days. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for a heat wave until June 2. The weather department lifted the alert on June 3, with a weather prediction suggesting a mainly clear sky with strong surface winds of 30 to 40 kmph.

During the next six days, the maximum temperature is expected to settle at a maximum of 44 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is forecasted at not less than 29 degrees Celsius.

The weather report warning against a heatwave states, “High temperature. Increased likelihood of heat illness symptoms in people who are either exposed to the sun for a prolonged period or doing heavy work. High health concern for vulnerable people, e.g., infants, elderly, people with chronic diseases."

It further advises, “Avoid heat exposure—keep cool. Avoid dehydration. Drink sufficient water even if you are not thirsty. Use ORS or homemade drinks like lassi, Torani (rice water), lemon water, buttermilk, etc., to keep yourself hydrated."

Compared to the normal temperature range for this period, the current maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius is four notches higher. Additionally, the current minimum temperature, at 26.9 degrees Celsius, is two notches above the normal temperature.
