THE Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) led by Lalduhoma has won the Mizoram assembly elections by dethroning the Mizo National Front (MNF) led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga. The ZPM has crossed the majority mark in the state.

Zoramthanga lost his seat in Aizawl East I and so did his deputy Tawnluia from Tuichang. Meanwhile, ZPM supremo Lalduhoma won from Serchhip, defeating MNF's J Malsawmzuala Vanchhawng by 2,982 votes.

India Today Axis-My India exit poll had predicted a clean sweep by the ZPM in Mizoram, securing 28–35 seats in the 40-member assembly. The MNF - a constituent of the BJP-led was likely to be reduced to just 3–7 seats.

Mizoram voted on November 7 and the counting of votes was supposed to begin on Sunday along with the other four states - Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana. But, the Election Commission of India (ECI) deferred it by a day as Sunday holds a special significance for the Christian-majority population in the state.

In 2018, the MNF won 26 seats, dislodging the Congress from power. The ZPM emerged victorious in eight seats, while the Congress was relegated to third with just five seats, compared to the 34 it won in 2013.
