Parasuram Express has new LHB coaches

THE iconic Parasuram Express (Train Nos. 16649/16650) running between Mangaluru Central and Kanniyakumari has officially been upgraded to modern Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches starting September 22, 2026.

Key Details of the Upgrade

• New Rake Composition: The train now operates with 22 LHB coaches instead of the older 23-coach ICF (Integral Coach Factory) configuration.

• Coach Breakdown: Includes 2 AC Chair Cars (C1, C2), 3 reserved Second Sitting (D1-D3), 6 unreserved Second Sitting, 9 general unreserved second class, 1 divyangjan-friendly coach, and 1 luggage-cum-power car.

• Capacity Clarification: Although initial reports suggested a major cut in unreserved seating, Railways clarified that the total unreserved accommodation remains at 16 coaches (including SLR), with the longer LHB cars providing smooth and safe travel.

• Benefits: Passengers get enhanced safety, modern interiors, and better riding comfort compared to the conventional ICF coaches.
