Sunnyvale, Texas: A city proudly led by Malayalees
SUNNYVALE, a city near Dallas, Texas, has two prominent Malayalees serving in key civic positions —Mayor Saji George and Councilwoman Mannu Danny.
Mayor Saji George, an American-educated engineer, previously worked with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Thiruvananthapuram. Councilwoman Mannu Danny is also an active member of the Malayalee community.
Both were recognized at the 15th Global Conference of the World Malayalee Council (WMC), held in Dallas, Texas.
Speaking at the conference, Mayor George shared his experience of serving the people of Sunnyvale and his commitment to working for the best interests of the community. He urged Malayalees to become actively involved in local civic and community activities.
He also congratulated the World Malayalee Council for its efforts to connect Malayalees across the globe and for undertaking various initiatives benefiting the people of Kerala.
Councilwoman Mannu Danny, who also serves as president of the local WMC province, expressed pride in the organization's work and encouraged the younger generation to become part of the global movement to connect Malayalees worldwide.
Recalling her decision to contest the City Council election, she spoke about the overwhelming and unexpected support she received from the local Malayalee community.
The achievements of Mayor Saji George and Councilwoman Mannu Danny have become a source of pride for the Malayalee community in Texas and a testament to the growing civic participation and leadership of Malayalees in the United States.
