Imminent danger to humanity as scientists warn of mass extinction event on earth
A REPORT backed by 17 experts has warned that Earth is heading toward a future marked by mass extinction, declining health, and climate-driven upheaval that threaten life as we know it.
The report argues that the planet is in far worse shape than most people realise, and that immediate action is needed.
The scientists note that, because of the delay between environmental damage and its effects, many people struggle to grasp the seriousness of the situation. It comes after 'China's Nostradamus' issued a terrifying US-Iran war warning after two predictions came true.
Rising temperatures will drive massive migration from equatorial regions toward the north or south. The destruction of rainforests, especially the Amazon, will speed up the rate at which our world warms.
This will also lead to catastrophic losses of wildlife vital to maintaining ecological stability. All these elements could lead to the breakdown of human civilization, and ultimately the end of our planet, reports the Daily Star.
The team wrote in a study for Frontiers in Conservation Science: "The scale of the threats to the biosphere and all its lifeforms - including humanity - is in fact so great that it is difficult to grasp for even well-informed experts."
The population boom - which could reach 10 billion people on Earth by 2050 - will also cause resource scarcity that may then spark widespread famine. It further means our world will have to deal with increasing amounts of synthetic waste, including plastics.
The report continued: "More people means that more synthetic compounds and dangerous throwaway plastics are manufactured, many of which add to the growing toxification of the Earth. It also increases the chances of pandemics that fuel ever-more desperate hunts for scarce resources."
The researchers ultimately emphasized that urgent intervention is needed. The report stated: "Humanity is causing a rapid loss of biodiversity and, with it, Earth's ability to support complex life.
"But the mainstream is having difficulty grasping the magnitude of this loss, despite the steady erosion of the fabric of human civilisation.
"Ours is not a call to surrender-we aim to provide leaders with a realistic 'cold shower' of the state of the planet that is essential for planning to avoid a ghastly future."
The findings further warned: "The added stresses to human health, wealth, and well-being will perversely diminish our political capacity to mitigate the erosion of ecosystem services on which society depends. The science underlying these issues is strong, but awareness is weak." Meanwhile, a doomsday prophets issued a terrifying warning as the 'end of world is coming'.
