Curbs on Thamarassery Ghat Road

TO manage severe holiday congestion and tourist rushes during the Onam season, traffic police and local authorities have enforced strict curbs on the Thamarassery Ghat Road (part of NH 766) effective until August 28, 2026.

No Parking: Total ban on parking or stopping vehicles anywhere along the Ghat Road and at viewpoints.

No Crowding: Public gatherings and people standing around on the narrow pass or curves are prohibited.

Towing & Penalties: Vehicles causing blockages or parked illegally will be towed immediately by cranes, with heavy fines imposed.

Heavy Vehicle Limits: Multi-axle trucks and large commercial goods carriers are restricted from regular daytime movement to prevent gridlock.

Increased Policing: Additional traffic police personnel and shift-wise volunteers are deployed across all hairpin bends to manage bottleneck points (aggravated by ongoing road widening near curves 6, 7, and 8).

Alternative Routes: If you want to bypass the heavy holiday traffic and potential delays on the Thamarassery Pass, consider these alternate hill passes:

Kuttiyadi Ghat Road: Accessible for diverted traffic and light vehicles moving between Kozhikode and Wayanad.

Nadukani Ghat Road: Ideal alternative via Mukkam, Areacode, and Nilambur.
