CBSE announces assessment scheme for Class 10 students in UAE, Middle East

THE Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a revised assessment scheme for Class 10 students in Middle East countries after cancelling the remaining main examinations due to the prevailing situation in the region.

In a notification issued on March 18, the board said exams scheduled across countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and Iran, were reviewed before the decision was taken.

The board stated that the results of students in the Middle East will be announced alongside those of other candidates. It added that internal assessment marks already uploaded by schools will be factored into the final results, which will be treated as final, with no special examinations to be conducted beyond the provisions outlined.

CBSE clarified that examinations conducted between February 17 and February 28 were completed successfully, covering a total of six academic subjects, including Mathematics, English and Science, along with 16 languages and 22 skill subjects, and results will now be prepared based on students’ performance in the papers they have already appeared for.

Accordingly, the results shall be prepared based on the following Assessment Scheme:

Students appeared in all examinations: The results of such students will be declared based on their performance in the examinations.

Students appeared in 4 examinations: The results of such students will be declared based on the average of the marks obtained in the best three performing subjects for the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted.

Students appeared in 3 examinations: The results of such students will be declared based on the average of the marks obtained in the best two performing subjects for the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted.

Students appeared in 2 examinations: There are very few students who have appeared in the examinations in only two subjects. Their results will be declared based on the average of the marks of the two subjects in the remaining subjects.

Other key provisions

The results of the students who have appeared in the examinations in only one or two subjects in previous years will be declared based on their performance in the examinations conducted. For the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted, they will be allowed to appear in the Second Board Examination.

The results of the students who have shifted their examination centres to other countries will be declared based on their performance in the examinations conducted.

Students will be allowed to improve their performance through the Second Board Examination as per the existing policy.

The assessment scheme for Class XII students will be issued separately.
