Case against actor Lakshmi Priya over Ansiba Hassan’s complaint
Police have registered a case against actor Lakshmi Priya on the directions of a Kerala court, based on a private complaint by actor Ansiba Hassan. The case was registered by Palarivattam police station in Kochi city limits.Ansiba had alleged that Lakshmi Priya made sexually coloured remarks against her and defamed her by spreading undesirable comments about her. She said that despite approaching the police several times, no FIR was registered in the matter. Subsequently, she moved a private complaint before the Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate IX Court, which directed the police to register a case. The court has also directed a probe against two representatives of CAN Channel, a YouTube channel which aired Lakshmi Priya’s interview, Live Law reports.Lakshmi Priya has been booked under Section 75(iv) (sexual harassment) and Section 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Sections 67 publishing/transmitting obscene material), 67A (transmitting/publishing sexual content) of the IT Act.Ansiba and Lakshmi Priya’s conflict is tied to the chaos in A.M.M.A (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists), after actor Shwetha Menon became President in August 2025.The immediate controversy began in May this year when Ansiba publicly levelled allegations against members of A.M.M.A’s leadership and resigned from her post. She alleged that she had faced humiliation and unfair treatment within the association, including Islamophobia.Ansiba said that A.M.M.A executive committee member Tini Tom accused her of “jihad” and attempting “religious conversion of other members of the association”. Tini Tom later denied the allegations, brushing them off as “hearsay”. Ansiba also alleged that she did not receive any sort of support from the organisation’s executive committee, including Swetha.The dispute escalated after a series of public statements and press interactions involving Lakshmipriya gained traction.
