Japan PM says rescue teams in 'race against time' after earthquake kills at least 13

JAPAN'S PM Sanae Takaichi says rescue teams are in a "race against time" after an earthquake killed at least 13 people - everything we know so far.

The quake hit the country's Kumamoto prefecture, in the south-west, on Tuesday with a magnitude of 6.8.

Rescuers are searching the rubble of the Aeon Mall in Kashima town and the Nippon Paper factory in Yatsushiro, with Takaichi saying there are still people "in need of help".

One survivor, a 75-year-old restaurant owner, tells the BBC the earthquake was the strongest she's experienced and she thought she would die.
