BENGALURU police on Tuesday detained Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa from Mysuru in connection with a murder case, HT Kannada reported. The South Indian actor was arrested for his alleged links in Renukaswamy murder case and is currently being brought to Bengaluru.

Renukaswamy made derogatory social media posts about Pavitra Gowda, suggested initial police investigation. Police began the investigation in the case after they found Renukaswamy’s dead body near Sumannahalli Bridge in Bengaluru, reported Asianet.

So far, 10 people have been arrested in the case. Police officials are likely to give further information about the case in a press conference set to take place shortly, according to an Asianet report.

The 47-year-old was picked up from a hotel in Mysuru in connection with the murder of a man, identified as Renuka Swamy, on June 9 coming under the Kamakshipalya police station limits here, the sources said.

A native of Chitradurga, Renukaswamy was allegedly murdered for harassing Pavithra Gowda online. Gowda is a close friend of the Kannada actor Darshan. Renukaswamy was called near a Mysuru farm house, which was owned by Darshan.

The accused persons tortured Renukaswamy for hours and murdered him before dumping his body in a drain in Bengaluru's Kamakshipalya region two months ago, reported The Hindu, referring to police. The police recovered the dead body on June 9 from the area and began an investigation into the case.

After Darshan Thoogudeepa’s arrest, police personnel have been deployed near his Bengaluru residence. Three people who were arrested during the initial investigation of the murder case had admitted to killing Renukaswamy because of financial disputes, reported Indian Express.
