Bengaluru couple chases delivery agent for brushing against car, kills him
BENGALURU South Police have arrested a couple for allegedly murdering a gig worker and staging it as a road accident.
The incident took place on October 25, when gig worker Darshan was killed and his friend Varun injured after a car chased and rammed their two-wheeler in the Sri Rama Temple area.
On the night of the incident, around 11:30 pm, a speeding car rammed into a two-wheeler from behind, killing the rider, Darshan, on the spot and seriously injuring his friend Varun, who was riding a pillion.
The case was initially registered as an accidental death at the JP Nagar Traffic Police Station. However, upon reviewing CCTV footage, investigators discovered that the car had deliberately followed and rammed the two-wheeler, suggesting a premeditated act rather than an accident.
According to DCP (South) Lokesh Jagalasur, the altercation began moments earlier when Darshan’s bike brushed against the car, breaking its side mirror. “Enraged by the incident, the driver reversed his vehicle, chased the two-wheeler, and deliberately hit it from behind,” he said.
The accused, identified as Manoj Sharma, a physical education teacher from Kerala, and his wife Aarti from Kashmir, allegedly returned to the scene later wearing masks to collect broken car parts in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Following the revelation, the case was reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, along with charges of destruction of evidence. The couple has been arrested and produced before court, while further investigation is underway.
