The new year makes you reflect on the past and look forward to a better future. It does not often happen the way you plan.
The life of the new generation is very difficult because of the changes in technology, which made drastic changes in how we communicate and how we face things. The technology has changed the culture and traditions. We cannot expect our next generation to be like us, and the generation after that will be very different.
I am in my seventies. When I think of how my parents and grandparents were living, and we were growing up in a village in India, everybody knew each other, rich or poor or different caste at that time, and what you did, the community and the neighbors knew each other and helped each other.
There was concern for each other. I recently asked a young woman, my relative, what their relationship is with the neighbors. She said, we have no neighbors, we live in a condominium, we only know the people living in the condominium, because we meet at the condominium association meeting and also meet at the parking lot or when we walk around.
We have some friends living in the condo with whom we are close. It was an honest answer. But I was surprised that she does not want to make any attempt to think of the people living in the condo as one community. She never has any connection with people living in other condos or houses next to their building.
This is the current generation. Theirs is a different culture. Then, of course, starting with Facebook and then WhatsApp, digital communication made it unnecessary to see each other and socialise with each other. If you are at a dining table, everybody is texting and eating, so do not talk to each other. Even in the offices, nobody has conversations.
The generation now growing up from childhood is getting into a different situation: AI (Artificial Intelligence). This is going to destroy the culture of human beings and create a fake culture of software applications that react as or more intelligent than humans, and that can do many jobs that humans can do now.
2026 and beyond are going to be much different from 2025 and before. But, humans still need to lead a normal life doing the regular stuff that they do daily: work or do business for a living, worship God, travel and entertain. While doing all these, there is a background of AI products that changes the way you do things, especially when dealing with the new generation now growing up from childhood. Be prepared.
