Some Hondas and Acuras will soon have a more 'conversational' AI assistant from Google
THOUSANDS of Honda and Acura vehicles will now be equipped with Google Gemini, an artificial intelligence assistant that can make on-the-road requests feel more conversational to drivers.
Gemini will be automatically available on models that already run Google software. When signed into their Google account, drivers can ask for directions, recommendations, and information in a way that feels "more like a genuine conversation than a traditional voice command system," Honda says.
Instead of relying on the strict, singular commands required for the old Google Assistant to respond, Gemini can answer layered questions and retain information that can help inform its future suggestions.
It'll also be able to assist drivers in tasks that aren't necessarily related to driving or directions. Drivers can ask Gemini to summarise news stories, plan trips, and brainstorm ideas in a "natural free-flowing conversation."
Both Honda and Acura say this is an essential step toward improving connectivity and access to information on the road.
"Connected technology is no longer a convenience for Honda customers—it's an essential part of the driving experience," Jessika Laudermilk, assistant vice president of Honda National Auto Sales, said. "The integration of Google Gemini reflects our commitment to providing technology that enhances every journey to help Honda drivers stay informed, connected, and productive."
