Shatabdi, Jan Shatabdi Expresses to be upgraded to Vande Bharat model
INDIAN Railways has begun a nationwide, time-bound initiative to upgrade Shatabdi and Jan Shatabdi Express trains to modern standards, offering amenities similar to Vande Bharat Express trains.
The revamp focuses on superior comfort, enhanced aesthetics, upgraded toilets, improved lighting, and increased seating comfort with new upholstery and digital systems, aiming to boost passenger experience to Vande Bharat levels.
Key Upgrades and Features: Seating and Interiors: Enhanced seating comfort with new upholstery, better cushioning, and improved functional amenities like USB charging ports and foldable snack tables.
Toilet Facilities: Modernized toilets with better fittings, improved drainage systems, and higher hygiene standards.
Ride Quality: Technical modifications to reduce jerk, providing a smoother travel experience.
Aesthetics and Lighting: Refurbished interiors with better flooring, wall panels, and improved LED lighting.
Information Systems: Improved, clearer, and more reliable digital passenger information systems (PAPIS).Scope and Implementation
Scope: The upgrade will cover around 25 pairs of Shatabdi Express trains and more than two dozen Jan Shatabdi services nationwide.
Action Plan: Railway zones have been directed to conduct detailed inspections of rakes and submit actionable plans with strict, time-bound deadlines to fix deficiencies.
Goal: The project aims to bridge the gap between older premium trains and newer offerings like Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat, ensuring uniform high-quality service, reports.
Long-Term Plan: Reports indicate a parallel plan for the future production of 1,500 new Vande Bharat chair car coaches, which will eventually replace the existing Shatabdi fleet.
