Great UDF victory in Kerala; changes in Tamil Nadu and W Bengal

KERALA held Assembly elections on April 9, and now the results have come out, electing the Congress-led UDF (United Democratic Front), with the Muslim League becoming the second largest party in UDF. UDF has 102 seats out of 140, BJP got 3 and LDF got 35. CPIM, CPI and Kerala Congress Mani group in LDF were defeated badly. At one time, Kerala Congress was a strong party in Kerala, which was practically wiped out, with only three seats in UDF and no seats in LDF. Congress won big with 62 seats.

Similarly, major changes happened in Bengal, where the BJP defeated Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress badly and wiped out the CPM, which were two popular parties before. In Tamil Nadu, both the ruling DMK and opposition ADMK were defeated by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhakam (TVK), a new party created by actor C. Joseph Vijay.

This has been an amazing expression of democracy; ruling parties in three states were defeated. NDA, led by the BJP, defeated the popular Mamata party in Bengal. DMK and ADMK were defeated by a new party headed by a young film star. Democracy worked in full swing. People of these four states showed the world that democracy works in India with no complaints of fraud and abuse.

What is next in Kerala? UDF, with its big mandate, should be able to run the government with no fear of being taken down with a big majority and popular support. They should not be engaged in bribery and corruption.

Kerala’s people, by giving them this big mandate, expect them to rule with dignity and fairness without engaging in favouritism and corrupt practices. Kerala is no longer a poor state; it has great resources. Tourism is flourishing in Kerala. Kerala plays a major role IT, including AI development. Export of value-added food products and seafood is a major industry in Kerala.

The new government should take an interest in supporting small industrial productions of consumer products; encourage organic farming and support corporate farming; take the initiative to bring in more AI startups and developments; build better bypass roads in all major cities and towns; work towards reducing crimes; and implement mental health programs, senior health programs, and projects for the disabled. New educational programs for employment training and advanced education shall be implemented.

World Malayalee Voice wishes the new UDF government all the best wishes and success.
