Rapper Vedan marries Navami Latha; Simple ceremony at home
RAPPER Vedan, born Hirandas Murali, has entered a new chapter in his personal life by marrying writer Navamilatha in an intimate ceremony in Thrissur.
The couple chose a simple, home-based registration conducted under the Special Marriage Act, placing the Constitution of India at the symbolic centre of their union.
The wedding has drawn attention as it comes at a time when the rapper has been facing legal scrutiny, including past sexual misconduct allegations and a drug-related arrest.
As the news of his wedding takes over social media, here is a detailed look at Vedan’s journey, achievements, and the controversies surrounding him.
Born in Thrissur, Vedan gained prominence in June 2020 with his debut music video Voice of the Voiceless, which resonated strongly with the audience online. His lyrics and distinct style quickly earned him recognition in Kerala’s independent music circuit. He later collaborated with composer Sushin Shyam for the track Kuthanthram in the film Manjummel Boys. The song earned him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Lyricist.
Vedan gained prominence with his debut music video 'Voice of the Voiceless' in 2020. He won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Lyricist for 'Kuthanthram' from 'Manjummel Boys'. His music often addresses social issues, blending raw lyricism with a strong regional identity. He has collaborated with various artists, including international producer KSHMR.
Over the years, he contributed to tracks such as Narabali for Nayattu, Maranathin Niram for No Way Out, and projects including Kondal and All We Imagine as Light. He also featured in international producer KSHMR’s album KARAM. He also teamed up with composer Nivas K. Prasanna and singer Arivu for the track Rekka Rekka in the 2025 Tamil film Bison Kaalamaadan, directed by Mari Selvaraj. However, his participation drew criticism in light of earlier sexual harassment allegations against him.
Despite his professional achievements, Vedan’s career has been marred by controversy. In 2021, he faced allegations of sexual misconduct shared through a social media platform as part of the MeToo movement. He later responded publicly, acknowledging the seriousness of the accusations and stating that he intended to reflect and correct his behaviour. He expressed that he did not wish to be someone who treated others, especially women, disrespectfully.
In April 2025, Kerala Police arrested the rapper after reportedly recovering nearly six grams of ganja from an apartment near Vyttila in Kochi. The recovery was said to have followed a tip-off. Reports indicated that he had arrived at the apartment with friends after a stage performance.
The couple had reportedly been in a long-term relationship. Navamilatha, a writer, has frequently accompanied Vedan to public events, including award ceremonies. The rapper previously shared that his 2025 track Mounalova was inspired by his partner.
While many fans have congratulated the couple on their marriage, others are still raising concerns about the pending allegations and charges.
