PM Modi begins three-day state visit to Seychelles

PRIME Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Seychelles on Saturday on a three-day State Visit to attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the country’s National Day as the Guest of Honour and hold high-level bilateral engagements aimed at further strengthening India-Seychelles ties.

In a special gesture, Seychelles President Patrick Herminie, along with senior ministers and dignitaries, received the Prime Minister at the airport. Members of the Indian diaspora also extended a warm welcome to PM Modi on his arrival.

Sharing glimpses of the reception on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister thanked President Herminie and the Indian community for their warm welcome.

“Landed in Seychelles. Deeply appreciate the warm welcome extended at the airport by Dr. Patrick Herminie. Seychelles is a valued maritime partner and a close friend in the Indian Ocean. Looking forward to a productive visit aimed at further strengthening our longstanding ties and enhancing cooperation for the benefit of the people of our nations,” PM Modi said.

During his visit from June 27 to 29, the Prime Minister will participate in the Seychelles' Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour.

Ahead of his departure, PM Modi described Seychelles as a valued maritime neighbour and a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR, reaffirming the shared commitment of both countries towards the Global South.

He also noted that 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles, describing the partnership as one built on mutual trust, shared democratic values, respect for diversity and strong people-to-people ties.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Patrick Herminie to review the full spectrum of India-Seychelles cooperation, including maritime security, development partnership, capacity building and regional cooperation.

PM Modi will also become the first Indian Prime Minister to address the National Assembly of Seychelles. He said the opportunity reflects the strong democratic traditions and parliamentary values shared by the two countries.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will also interact with members of the Indian diaspora, whom he described as a living bridge between India and Seychelles.

Expressing confidence about the outcome of the visit, PM Modi said it would further deepen the longstanding partnership between the two countries, strengthen maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region and advance the shared vision of a secure, peaceful and prosperous Indian Ocean.
