Only one World Malayalee Council
Andrew Pappachen, Founder
THE World Malayalee Council was formed on July 3, 1995, in New Jersey, USA, on the final day of the First World Malayalee Convention organised by us. Chief Election Commissioner of India, Mr T.N. Seshan, who was the chief guest, agreed to be the first Global Chairman of the World Malayalee Council, and Mr K.P.P. Nambiar, Founder of KELTRON, agreed to be the first Global President.
Mr Seshan approved the election and completed the election process of selecting all the global officials for a two-year term as per the approved bylaws. I was elected Vice President of Administration. After serving two terms (four years), I was elected Global President for two terms and after that two terms as Global Chairman and then one term as Global Advisory Board Chairman.
This World Malayalee Council continues to function following its original bylaws, conducts regular global conferences every two years except during Covid time, and has the authority to use the original logo. However, in 2009-10, a few members met in Abu Dhabi and split from the World Malayalee Council and started functioning as the World Malayalee Council, even though the original Council was still functioning.
This unauthorized group later amended the original bylaws and continued to use the name. In 2025, a few members of the second unauthorized WMC met in Thailand and created another group, and they also started using the name World Malayalee Council. Now there are two unauthorized World Malayalee Councils and the original World Malayalee Council, which has the authority to use the original logo, conducted its business for the last 31 years by following the original bylaws.
Based on the above facts, it is suggested that the two breakaway groups change their name and stop using the name World Malayalee Council and function as legitimate organizations so that all three organizations can serve global Malayalees without confusing the public.
This is the opinion of other founders and former leaders who left WMC. The World Malayalee Council worked diligently among global Malayalees during the first 15 years toward its mission to network global Malayalees and create a Global Malayalee Community.
We carried out more than Rs 1 crore worth of charity projects in Kerala to support the socioeconomic development of low-income or no-income people and women. We adopted 10 villages in 10 different districts, each sponsored by a person and spent five years helping people to become self-reliant, working among the differently abled, and doing many other projects.
I urge all my Malayalee friends in the other two groups to come back and join the original Word Malayalee Council and work towards its goal of networking global Malayalees to create a Global Malayalee Community connected and helping each other for generations to come. There cannot be three organizations with the same name.
Since the original organization still functions as a Texas, USA-registered not-for-profit organization, even though some original incorporators dissolved the incorporation in New Jersey, USA, the other two, the one started in 2009-2010 in Abu Dhabi and the second one started in 2025 in Thailand, are advised to change their names and continue their existence to serve the global Malayalees.
The World Malayalee Council is organizing its next Global Conference in August in Dallas, Texas.
