Felony: Malayali-American former judge K P George jailed
MALAYALI-American and former Fort Bend County (Texas) Judge K.P. George was sentenced to 180 days in jail, 5 years of probation, and a $5,000 fine on June 16, 2026, following his felony conviction for money laundering.
He was officially removed from his position as a county judge by the court.
George was found guilty of two felony counts of money laundering for illegally transferring over $46,000 from his election campaign accounts to his private personal accounts.
Prosecutors proved that the diverted campaign donations were used to cover personal expenses, including his home's property taxes.
After a jury convicted him in March 2026, the judge delivered the final sentence of 6 months in a county jail, 5 years of probation, and the aforementioned fine.
Following the sentencing hearing, George’s legal team immediately filed an appeal. While he was taken into custody in the courtroom, he awaits the unfolding of the appeals process.
Hailing from Pathanamthitta, George made history as the first person of South Asian descent to serve as Fort Bend County Judge, taking office in 2019.
