Rahul slams fastest Indian Century, Kohli highest run getter

KL Rahul on Sunday became the fastest Indian batter to score a Hundred in ODI World Cup history at the ICC ODI World Cup match against the Netherlands at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Rahul achieved the feat in just 62 deliveries, surpassing the previous record held by Rohit Sharma, who had scored a century in 63 deliveries in the match against Afghanistan.

This was KL Rahul's second century in World Cup history and the first in the ongoing edition.

Rahul also joined the elite company of Rahul Dravid to become the second Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score a century.

Dravid was the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score a World Cup hundred.

Dravid achieved this feat in the 1999 World Cup against Sri Lanka when he played a magnificent 145-run knock.

Rahul got dismissed on the second last ball of the inning by Bas de Leede at a score of 102 comprising 11 boundaries and six maximum.

Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 128 off 94 balls as India finished their innings on 410/4.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli on Sunday became the highest run-getter in the ICC ODI World Cup match against the Netherlands at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Kohli reached the landmark during his 51-run knock finishing the league stage of the tournament with 594 going past South Africa Quinton de Kock 591 runs.

Despite his 4 runs short of reaching the 600-run milestone, which would make him the third Indian batter to achieve this feat in a World Cup edition.

Unfortunately, Virat Kohli couldn't capitalize on his fifty to achieve his 50th ODI hundred, succumbing to left-arm spinner Roelof van der Merwe in the 29th over.

Earlier in the day, India captain Rohit Sharma played a fluent 61-run knock with eight fours and two sixes to break Sourav Ganguly's two-decade-old World Cup record as India's highest run-scoring captain in a single edition of World Cup.

Ganguly had set the previous record of 465 runs in the 2003 World Cup, featuring 11 innings and three centuries, with a high score of 111. In contrast, Rohit has now amassed an impressive 503 runs in just nine innings during the current World Cup, including a century and three half-centuries, with a top score of 131.
