PRIME Minister Narendra Modi expressed appreciation after meeting Israeli President Isaac Herzog, highlighting the strength of the India–Israel partnership. He noted strong potential in future-focused sectors like technology, innovation and startups.
Modi also thanked President Herzog for supporting the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, underscoring shared commitment toward environmental sustainability and deeper bilateral cooperation.
On Day 2 of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Israel, defence partnership and counter-terror cooperation took centre stage.
Talks focused on strengthening India’s multi-layered air and missile defence architecture, including collaboration on ballistic missile defence and advanced interceptor technologies.
Discussions also explored joint development of midair refuelling aircraft to replace ageing IL-78 tankers and enhance the Indian Air Force’s strategic reach. India is already procuring systems like Barak-8, SPYDER, Heron UAVs and precision munitions from Israel, with a growing emphasis on technology transfer and joint production under “Make in India.”
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti criticised the move, calling it contrary to India’s long-standing foreign policy. She claimed that most Indians oppose Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and expressed disapproval of Modi warmly embracing him during the visit. According to her, such gestures send the wrong message internationally. She stated, "PM Modi, who represents 140 crore Indians, went there and hugged a criminal," calling it an inappropriate step for India’s global image.
During the meeting with the Israeli President, Issac Herzog, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude for visiting the country. He also invited the Israeli lawmakers to India.
"I am glad that I have had the opportunity to meet you before in various places... Today is my opportunity to visit you. The people of India are eager to welcome you, and therefore, I especially invite you to visit India. I urge you not only to come to Delhi but also to spare some time so that the people of other places in India also have the opportunity to welcome you," he added.
