Makeup artist Jaanmoni arrested on complaint of insulting PM, gets station bail

Celebrity makeup artist Jaanmoni Das was arrested on Thursday, August 20, in connection with a complaint that she insulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The arrest was recorded by Kozhikode cyber police station. Jaanmoni had made certain remarks against the PM while talking to the media in connection with the Jantar Mantar protest organised by the Cockroach Janata Party recently.  As per the FIR, police have charged her under sections 192 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 356 (2) (criminal defamation) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 12 (o)(causing a nuisance to any person through any means of communication)of Kerala Police Act 2011. “The accused has made defamatory and insulting remarks through various social media platforms against Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi with an intent to create communal unrest and disrupt public peace,” said the FIR. Since the offences were bailable, Jaanmoni was released after recording her arrest.   The cyber police had registered a case based on a complaint filed by BJP Mahila Morcha state president and Kozhikode councillor Navya Haridas to the city police commissioner. The case was registered a day after she publicly apologised for the remarks she made against the PM and his mother. She had then said that her limited fluency in Malayalam might have caused the misunderstanding. Jaanmoni hails from Assam.  Jaanmoni was among some of the celebrities from Kerala who attended the anti-NEET protest at Jantar Mantar, which eventually led to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

CELEBRITY makeup artist Jaanmoni Das was arrested on Thursday, August 20, in connection with a complaint that she insulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
