BREAKING: Confident Group Chairman C J Roy commits suicide
DUBAI-based Indian expat businessman and Confident Group Chairman Dr C.J. Roy has died by suicide, Indian media reported on Friday.
According to reports, Dr Roy shot himself at his office in Bengaluru.
Indian media reports linked the incident to the ongoing Income Tax Department raid on his company.
Dr Roy was a prominent builder and film producer.
The New Indian Express said the 57-year-old died by suicide at his office in central Bengaluru.
Police said he was found with a gunshot wound inside his office premises in Anepalya, and he was declared dead at the scene, the report said.
Confident Group is among the well-known real estate developers in India. Roy had built a public image as an accessible entrepreneur and often spoke about his journey with young audiences through public forums and reality shows. He was also highly active on social media.
The Income Tax officials, who had conducted a raid at the Confident Group office, have now halted the operation and are returning, after seizing bags of documents transported in two Innova cars.
Police have reached the spot and initiated further procedures. More details surrounding the circumstances of the incident are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
