TWO nurses from Kottayam were among five people killed in a road accident on the Taif–Rania road in Saudi Arabia, reports said.

The deceased Malayali nurses were Jaisymol Mathew, 46, of Ayarkunnam, and Jobina Johnny, 27, of Kurumalloor, both in Kottayam district.

Two nurses from Tamil Nadu—Vijayalakshmi Jagadeesh (above right), 37, and Hepsiba Devamani, 33—and the Saudi national driving the vehicle also died.

The accident occurred about 40 km from Rania when the vehicle overturned after reportedly losing control. The four nurses were employed at government primary health clinics in the Taif Governorate and were travelling to Rania for shopping on their day off.

The victims' bodies are being kept at Rania General Hospital mortuary. The Indian Consulate in Jeddah, NORKA and local community organisations are assisting with arrangements to repatriate the bodies to Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Jaisymol had reportedly been working in Saudi Arabia for about 18 years and is survived by her husband and three children. Jobina was unmarried and had been working in Saudi Arabia for about one-and-a-half years.
