Thazhathangadi boat race on Saturday

THE annual Thazhathangadi boat race will be held on Saturday in the Meenachil River at Thazhathangadi, Kottayam, drawing rowing teams and spectators for one of Kerala’s traditional water sporting events.

The race is expected to add to the festive atmosphere along the riverbanks, with spectators gathering to watch the competing snake boats and cheer on the rowers.

Thazhathangadi, known for its historic heritage and proximity to Kottayam town, is a popular venue for traditional boat races that celebrate Kerala’s rich riverine culture.

The 125th edition of the race will be the seventh leg of the sixth season of the Champions Boat League (CBL). Nine snakeboats that competed in the Nehru Trophy Boat Race will vie for honours.

The event is organised by the Kottayam West Club in association with the Kerala Tourism Department, Kottayam Municipality and Thiruvarppu grama panchayat.
