Artemis II: NASA releases first images of Earth — ‘spectacular blues and browns, green aurora’ seen

NASA has released the first stunning images of Earth from the Artemis II mission, showing the planet in vibrant blues, browns, and a visible green aurora, captured shortly after the 2026 launch. These, shared via NASA's official channels, are some of the first views of home from the crewed mission to the Moon.

Breathtaking Views: The images display Earth from space, with distinct colours highlighting the planet's atmosphere and surface features.

Green Aurora: A vibrant green aurora, caused by sun particles, is visible, lighting up the Earth's atmosphere.

Historic Mission: Artemis II aims to take humans back to the vicinity of the Moon, with these early photos providing a profound "Blue Marble" perspective reminiscent of the Apollo era.

The images, showing the planet as a vibrant, living orb, offer a new, breathtaking look at Earth from the perspective of the Artemis II mission crew.
