KSRTC Luxury Executive Class buses ready for launch

THE Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is preparing to roll out its much-awaited luxury Executive Class bus service, aimed at offering passengers a premium travel experience on long-distance routes.
The service is expected to use two high-end Volvo buses purchased by KSRTC at a cost of around ₹2 crore each.
The buses are equipped with facilities including an onboard toilet, pantry and enhanced passenger comfort features.
A trained bus hostess is expected to assist passengers with ticket checks and onboard services, replacing the conventional conductor arrangement.
The luxury service was initially planned as a Business Class operation, particularly between Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. However, KSRTC has been considering renaming it as an Executive Class service. The buses are designed to operate with limited stops, following the fast-service model, making the journey quicker and more comfortable.
The launch had faced delays, reportedly over issues related to the tax exemption applicable to the buses. The two Volvo coaches had remained idle while the issue was being resolved.
The proposed service is part of KSRTC's efforts to attract passengers who currently prefer private luxury buses and other premium modes of transport. The corporation has also been planning a wider expansion of premium AC services on long-distance and interstate routes.
The Executive Class service is expected to give KSRTC's premium travel segment a major boost while providing passengers with a more comfortable alternative for intercity travel.
