Police said Bavin and Aneesha became acquainted through Facebook. They had their first baby in 2021 and the second in 2024. Pudukkad police registered two FIRs against Aneeha and Bavin and according to the first FIR, Aneesha, the first accused, killed the baby, who was born on November 6, 2021, to conceal the birth. She allegedly smothered the child and buried the dead body in the compound of her house. Later, she opened the grave and handed over the remains to the second accused, Bavin. The second FIR said the second baby was born on August 29, 2024 and was killed in a similar manner by Aneesha to conceal the birth. After confirming the child’s death she handed over the dead body to the second accused Bavin. Bavin buried the body in a land near his mother's house in Nenmanikkara. The FIR said ‘the unmarried mother and father, who had the responsibility to protect the child, failed to do that. They failed to provide any treatment and care and killed the baby, and also destroyed the evidence.’ Both Aneeha and Bavin have been booked under sections 315 (acts intended to prevent a child from being born alive or causing its death after birth), 317 (abandonment of a child), 318 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body), 302(murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of an offence), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for the first infant’s murder and similar section of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita(BNS) for the second infant’s murder. They have also been booked under section 75 (cruelty to children) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. According to reports, the bones were preserved by them for post-death rituals. Police said Bavin had kept the bones to establish their relationship in case the woman separated from him in the future. The police have formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the case. The bone samples have been sent to the Thrissur Medical College Hospital for a detailed examination.
