BIRDLAND, a 6.5-acre tropical haven in the English countryside of Leicester, is a must-visit destination for bird enthusiasts. With over 250 birds from around the world, the aviaries are a kaleidoscope of colors and sounds. Some of the highlights include:
- Macaws: From the vibrant Blue and Yellow to the majestic Hyacinth macaws, these birds are a sight to behold. My relative had a memorable encounter with a Hyacinth Macaw that landed on his shoulder and started nibbling on his ear.
- - Cockatoos: The charming Umbrella cockatoos and Red-tailed black cockatoos are sure to delight visitors. I had a thrilling experience with a Red-tailed black Cockatoo that jumped onto my arm and started exploring my hair and sunglasses.
- - Amazons & Parakeets: The vibrant Red-lored Amazons, Alexandrine parakeets, and a walk-in aviary filled with Budgies and Cockatiels are a treat for visitors.
- - Other Exotic Birds: The aviaries are also home to Toucans, toucanets, trumpeter hornbills, and a stunning flock of Chilean flamingos.
- - Birds of Prey: Various species of owls can be spotted, adding to the diversity of the bird collection. See pix.
- - Other Species: Grey Crowned African Crane, Emus, ibises, and other wetland or wading birds round out the impressive array of species.
- What sets Birdland apart is the opportunity to interact with the birds. The supervised "Parrot Path" zones allow visitors to feed and handle the birds, making for a truly unforgettable experience. My relative captured some fantastic photos.
