Polling progresses on a brisk note in Nilambur

POLLING started on a brisk note for the Assembly byelection in Nilambur on Thursday (June 19, 2025) morning, reports The Hindu.

Many voters reached the polling stations well before polling started at 7 a.m. Polling will continue until 6 p.m.

Nilambur registered 13.6% polling in the first two hours.

Nilambur is going to the polls to find a representative in the Assembly following the resignation of Left Democratic Front (LDF)’s Independent candidate P.V. Anvar after he had fallen out with the LDF. Mr. Anvar, who is currently the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) state convener, is contesting yet again as an Independent.

United Democratic Front (UDF)’s Aryadan Shoukath and LDF’s M. Swaraj are the key front-runners in the poll fray.

Mr. Swaraj cast his vote at Government LP School, Mankuthu.

Mr. Shoukath cast his vote at Government LP School, Veetikuth, along with his mother.

Both candidates met and shared a moment of friendship during their brief visits to the polling booths. Talking to the media later, both expressed confidence in victory.

Veteran theatre artiste Nilambur Aysha polled her vote at Government LP School, Mukkatta.

BJP candidate Mohan George and family voted at the Mar Thoma Higher Secondary School, Chungathara.

P.V. Abdul Wahab, MP, cast his vote at Government Model UP School, Nilambur, along with his family.
