Groom, 22, is shot dead on the way to his wedding: Police

A 22-year-old groom was shot and killed in India while he was on his way to his wedding.

The groom, identified as Azad Bind, per The Times of India and The Tribune, which cited (senior superintendent of police) SSP Kunwar Anupam Singh, was in his wedding procession at the time of the shooting. Police later identified the alleged shooter as Pradeep Bind. The incident occurred on May 3.

The incident took place near Bibipur village under Khetasarai police station area around 7 pm when Azad Bind, a resident of Badaur village under Sarai Khwaja police station, was travelling with his wedding procession.

“A relative of the bride, Pradeep Bind, was unhappy with the marriage and, along with his associate Ravi Yadav, arrived on a motorcycle and fired at the groom, resulting in his death upon reaching the hospital,” the SSP said in a statement to The Tribune.

"Based on the complaint from the family, a case has been registered under the relevant sections. Police teams have been formed to arrest the accused."

Authorities are still searching for Bind, per the outlet.

According to the Times of India and The Tribune, the father of the deceased, Ram Lakhan Bind also claims he was assaulted.

“We were assaulted by them earlier as well, while I was on my way to Mumbai, and my leg was broken. There were 2 children, 2 adults apart from the driver, with the boy (victim), in the car,” said Bind.

The victim was a resident of Badaur village, according to India.com.
