BJP worker shot dead over personal dispute
A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was shot dead allegedly over a personal conflict in Kaithapram in Kerala’s Kannur district, on Thursday, March 20. KK Radhakrishnan, a goods auto driver by profession, was allegedly killed by NK Santhosh, a contractor from Perumpadavu, Kannur. The accused has been taken into custody by the Pariyaram police. Two months ago, Radhakrishnan had filed a police complaint against Santhosh over a personal dispute, after which the latter had allegedly threatened him on multiple occasions. The crime took place around 7 pm on Thursday, March 20, at a construction site that Radhakrishnan used to frequent. Santhosh, who was aware of his routine, arrived at the spot with a gun and shot Radhakrishnan. He carried out the murder after posting a picture of himself holding a gun on Facebook at 4:23 pm on Thursday. It was captioned: “The task is to hit the target. Certainly it will.” When the gunshot was heard near the construction site, nearby residents initially believed it to be fireworks. Radhakrishnan’s son cried out for help, alerting the locals. He was taken to Government Medical College, Kannur, where he was declared dead on arrival. Shortly after, a search of the premises by Pariyaram police led to the capture of Santhosh, who was hiding inside the under-construction house and was reportedly drunk at the time of arrest. The police suspect that the accused discarded the gun in a nearby well. A search is underway for the gun. Santhosh is part of the panchayat shooters’ team that is authorised to cull wild boars in the area.
