Actor Santhosh Nair dead
MALAYALAM actor Santhosh K Nair died on Tuesday morning following a road accident in Pathanamthitta. He was 66.
In the early hours of Tuesday, his car rammed into a van. His wife, who was accompanying him, is being treated at the hospital.
Santhosh K Nair stepped into the film industry with the 1982 film Ithu Njangalude Katha.
He featured in more than 100 films and was mostly known for villainous and comic roles.
Born on November 12, 1960, in Thiruvananthapuram, Santhosh Kesavan Nair grew up in a well-educated family.
His father, C. N. Kesavan Nair, was a retired headmaster.
His mother, P. Rajalakshmiamma, was a retired teacher.
During his college days, he was actively involved in politics. While his sisters became gynaecologists, he chose acting as his career path.
Santhosh also shared an interesting personal connection with superstar Mohanlal. The two were contemporaries at MG College, where Santhosh pursued a BSc in Mathematics while Mohanlal studied Commerce.
In several interviews, Santhosh fondly recalled their college days, noting that although they were nearly the same age, Mohanlal became his senior after Santhosh briefly left his studies to pursue engineering before returning to complete his degree.
Mohaniyattam marks his final appearance. It is currently running in theatres. The film now stands as his final on-screen appearance.
The film hit theatres on April 10 and serves as a sequel to Bharathanatyam (2024). The film will begin streaming on Netflix on May 8.
Directed by Krishnadas Murali, the story follows Sasidharan Nair's family as they are trapped in a tense situation. The cast also includes Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vinay Forrt, and Jagadish.
His last movie Bharathanatyam 2 Mohiniyattam, which hit the silver screen on 10 April, is still running in theatres. It is a Malayalam-language dark comedy thriller film through which Santhosh Nair made a comeback.
Directed by Krishnadas Murali and co-written by Murali and Vishnu R Pradeep is a sequel to Bharathanatyam (2024). Produced by Thomas Thiruvalla Films and Saiju Kurup Entertainments, it features 155 minutes (2 hours 25 minutes) runtime.
The plot of this film revolves around the death of Bharathan Nair. Continuing from the point the first film left, the story delves into the life of Sasidharan Nair who travels to Sreekandapuram with his family to secure the future of Rukmini and her son. The narrative gradually shifts towards darker humour and crime-thriller territory as they attempt to settle Bharathan Nair's second family into a new home.
Made on a budget of ₹5 to 6 crore, this movie did a business of ₹24.57 crore net at the Indian box office, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. At the worldwide box office, it collected a cumulative sum of ₹38.94 crore gross.
A familiar face to the Malayalam audience, Santhosh Nair made his last appearance in this movie alongside other fellow cast members, including Saiju Kurup, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jagadish, Vinay Forrt, Baby Jean, Kalaranjini and Sreeja Ravi.
Streaming giant Netflix has officially secured the digital rights for this dark comedy sequel. Bharathanatyam 2 Mohiniyattam OTT releases will be available for streaming from 8 May onwards.
