Man dies after swallowing two packets of synthetic drugs to evade police

A 28-year-old man from Kerala's Thamarassery, who ingested a dangerous quantity of synthetic drugs upon spotting a police enforcement squad, died at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital on Saturday, March 8.The deceased, identified as Iyyadan Shanid, a resident of Karimpalakkunnu near Maikkavu, was initially taken into custody on Friday morning on suspicion of possessing MDMA for local distribution. According to police sources, he swallowed two plastic packets containing the drug in an attempt to evade arrest and attempted to flee.Shanid was first rushed to the Thamarassery Taluk Hospital after informing police about ingesting the substance. He was later shifted to Kozhikode Medical College for specialised treatment, where a CT scan and endoscopy revealed two plastic packets inside his stomach.Doctors also detected a white substance inside the packets. Despite medical intervention, he was declared dead at 11.18 am on Saturday.Police sources stated that Shanid had been under surveillance for alleged drug dealing and was apprehended from Ambayathode, where he was reportedly waiting for clients.Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact quantity of drugs he consumed. They also emphasised that necessary medical assistance was provided to the deceased and legal procedures were followed.
