Files complaint after ex-partner alleges rape, domestic abuse
After Elizabeth Udayan accused her former partner, actor Bala Kumar, of rape and domestic abuse, he has turned to the police. Bala and his wife Kokila submitted a complaint before the Kochi Police Commissioner against Elizabeth and YouTuber Aju Alex, popularly known by his stage name ‘Chekuthan’. The couple met officials on Sunday, March 16, and Bala’s lawyer confirmed that both Bala and Kokila filed separate complaints.It was in October 2024 that Bala married Kokila. Before that, he was in a partnership with Elizabeth Udayan, a doctor from Thrissur. Recently, Elizabeth put up videos on her Facebook and YouTube handles, raising serious allegations against Bala, including rape and domestic violence. In several videos, Elizabeth alleges verbal and physical harassment, adding that the actor used his influence to keep everything under wraps. She says she has been in mental distress after her separation from him and that it is only now that she has found the courage to open up about her experiences. In some videos, she shares apprehensions about her own safety and says that if something happens to her, the world should know what she went through.Elizabeth also alleges that Bala now denies having married her since the two have not registered their marriage, but she explains that it was her father who paid for a wedding reception the duo had in September 2021. She also posted a video of their hands with wedding rings engraved with each other‘s names. In a few videos, a heavily distressed Elizabeth can be heard saying that she has lost hope since nobody seems to care about her allegations despite her citing grave crimes like rape. She adds that the actor was a heavy alcohol user and alleges that he often intimidated her under its influence. Recently, she also posted a voice recording from a night when he allegedly brought another man into their bedroom.After filing complaints against Elizabeth and Aju Alex, Bala and his wife Kokila told the media that many YouTubers are trying to tarnish their reputation. He also alleged that this was a conspiracy to extort money from him.Currently, the Kakkanad cyber police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Aju Alex in the complaint filed by Kokila under Sections 78 (stalking), and 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult modesty of women) of the Bharatiya Nayay Sanhita, Section 67 (Punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the IT Act, and Section 120(O) (causing nuisance and violation of public order) of the Kerala Police Act. Bala’s complaint against Elizabeth is being investigated.Meanwhile, Lijesh, an aspiring writer, came out in support of Elizabeth. In a YouTube video, Lijesh says he was acquainted with Bala for over a year from 2020 to 2023, which includes the period during which the actor went through a liver transplant. Lijesh explains that he reached out to Bala to pitch a script which he had written. He says Bala insisted that the story should place him as a man tormented by women.Apart from confirming some of Elizabeth’s allegations, Lijesh says that the actor owns a gun which has no license and that he has been committing financial fraud under the guise of charity. He adds that Bala is an alcoholic and that he himself has bought alcohol for him on several days.Earlier in October 2024, Bala was arrested for making derogatory remarks against his ex-wife and singer Amrutha Suresh and their minor daughter after Amrutha filed a complaint with the Kadavanthara police in Kochi. Bala and Amrutha’s daughter had posted a video on her social media account alleging that Bala physically abused Amrutha and that she wished nothing to do with him. This was in response to Bala’s back-to-back insinuations against Amrutha suggesting that she was keeping their daughter from mingling with him after their divorce.Amrutha then posted a video explaining what she endured in the relationship with Bala, alleging physical abuse and domestic violence. She also said that Bala violated several clauses of their divorce agreement by dragging her and their daughter into needless controversies, triggering cyber attacks against them.Elizabeth‘s videos are now being cited by many as similar to the experiences Amrutha shared about her relationship with Bala. Several netizens have also started commenting #justiceforelizabeth and #justiceforamrutha under many of Bala and Kokila’s YouTube videos and interviews.In 2023, Bala was booked for allegedly barging into Aju Alex’s house. Aju alleged that Bala used a gun to threaten his roommate. Aju had uploaded videos criticising Bala on his YouTube channel, which allegedly motivated Bala to threaten him.
