Democrats take control of Congress as voters hand Trump major loss

THE Democrats have taken control of the House of Representatives and the Senate in the U.S. midterm elections, three American networks projected, delivering a stunning rebuke to the Trump administration.

The party quickly flipped the three seats it needed to take the House before it won several traditionally Republican states to assume control of the Senate.

The results dramatically shrink U.S. President Donald Trump's power for his final two years in office by forcing him to rely on Democrats to get work done through Congress.

Despite the loss, Trump still holds executive power that he could use to restrain the opposing party.
