US presidential election
DONALD Trump, the 45th President of the United States, was on Wednesday elected as the 47th President who defeated the current Vice President Kamala Harris, the daughter of a black immigrant father from Jamaica and an Indian immigrant mother from India.
President Joe Biden defeated Trump when he contested for his second term in 2020. Trump’s win is extraordinary; it never happened in US history. He was impeached twice during his first term as president; he was convicted of a crime and charged with insertion on January 6, 2021, to stop the certification of the 2020 presidential election.
This extraordinary victory happened because people were not happy with Joe Biden’s performance, not ready for a woman and African American president and Trump’s promise to stop illegal immigration and deportation of illegal immigrants currently in the US. As with any other democratic system of government, people accept the election results and move forward.
Some of the few reasons Kamala was defeated are, being a black woman, Trump’s anti-immigrant stand, and reduced support among Spanish or Latinos. In a democratic election, it always happens, how people perceive a candidate and the policies of a political party. This time the policies of the Democratic party and the leadership of Kamala Harris were defeated. Kamala got the majority vote of college-educated people and Trump got the majority vote of white Americans (60 percent of the US population) and the majority of Hispanics (19 percent of the population). Kamala got 80 percent of the Blacks (14%).
There will be major changes in US Foreign and Domestic policies. The US may not support the Ukrainian war. Trump has promised a 20 percent tariff on all Chinese products, reduced immigration to the United States, a tax cut for wealthy Americans and the states power to control women’s right to abortion. The US will have a friendly policy towards India. The wife of the vice president J.D. Vance is the daughter of Indian immigrants.
The USA, the oldest democracy in the world, had a peaceful national election and Americans have accepted the results.
