Grand events planned during the Aug 2-5 WMC Global Conference in TVM

THE preparations for the 14th Biennial Global Conference of the World Malayalee Council to be held in Thiruvananthapuram are progressing, according to General Secretary Pinto Kannampally. 

The conference will take place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram from August 2 to 5. 
Malabar Gold and the State Bank of India are the main sponsors. 

Chairman Gopal Pillai and President John Mathew jointly announced that Kerala Chief Minister Sri Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the conference. 

Dr. K. G. Vijayalakshmi, Chairperson of the Conference Committee, and General Convener Dr. P. M. Nair (IPS, Retd) believe that the tireless efforts of all committee members will ensure the success of the event, as stated by the WMC Global Council.

At the opening session on August 2, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, along with Revenue Minister K. Rajan, Mayor Arya Rajendran S, Thiruvananthapuram MLA Antony Raju, MP Shashi Tharoor, Dr. P. Mohammed Ali (Galfar), SBI Chief General Manager Bhuvaneshwari E, Malabar Gold and Diamonds Chairman M. P. Ahmed, and Prabha Varma will be the chief guests.

On the grand finale on August 4 (Sunday), Opposition Leader V. D. Satheesan, E. T. Muhammad Basheer, Union ministers Suresh Gopi and George Kurian, Ramesh Chennithala and John Brittas MP will also participate.

Over a thousand representatives from around 50 provinces across WMC's active regions in America, Europe, the Middle East and India will attend the conference.

The release of the global souvenir will be conducted in the presence of the central minister, as informed by Souvenir Chief Editor Pinto Kannampally.

In memory of the late Dr. P. A. Ibrahim Haji, a prominent leader of the World Malayalee Council who made significant contributions to social and cultural platforms in the UAE, the inauguration of the Karunyabhavanam project by the WMC Middle East Region will be held during the conference, with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan performing the honours. 

In the first phase of the project, WMC Middle East Region will spend ₹50 lakhs for housing for the homeless in Kerala under the leadership of its provinces (Dubai, Sharjah, Umm Al-Quwain, Ajman and Fujairah). The Chief Minister will hand over the keys to five houses built for selected applicants from five districts in Kerala.

Dr. P. A. Ibrahim Haji Memorial World Malayalee Humanitarian Golden Lantern Award will be presented to prominent industrialist and social-cultural activist Galfar Mohammed Ali.

The WMC’s America Region Philadelphia Province will commence fundraising for a community wedding for 50 families as part of its charitable activities next year.

Various discussions and cultural programmes on different topics have been planned under the leadership of WMC's International Forums.

The WMC Global Women's Forum meeting will feature Dr. Tessi Thomas, Vice Chancellor of NICHE University, Tamil Nadu, known as the "Missile Woman of India" or "Agniputri," as the chief guest. 

Forum President Prof. Dr. Lalitha Mathew will address representatives about the Coconut Farming Project and its market potential, which was initiated last year as part of the Women's Forum.

The conference will include discussions on over 15 services relevant to Malayalees living outside Kerala, including retirement investments, education, foreign language classes, job opportunities, expatriate pensions, expatriate insurance, and business opportunities. 

The NOORC Routes officials' meeting will primarily focus on these discussions. The WMC NRK Forum President Abdul Hakim will take the initiative to set up the NOORC member ID registration desk at the conference.

Under the leadership of Adv. Antony John Ayyarukavan, President of the WMC International Legal Forum, various legal discussions have been arranged. Graceus Kuriakose (ADGP, Kerala High Court), John S. Ralph (noted criminal lawyer), and George Thomas Kottayam (family law) will represent the legal forum as guests at the conference.

The WMC International Art and Cultural Forum will organize an international short film festival in memory of Malayalam cinema’s beloved director I. V. Sasi, named the “I. V. Sasi International Short Film Festival” (IVSISFF). The awards will be announced at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram, as informed by Cultural Forum President Cheriyan T. Kizhakkad.

The WMC will open a one-stop solution system for health, medical, and Ayurveda travel for expatriates and others interested in Kerala and India. The agreement for medical and educational collaboration, participation, and support with MIMS will be signed. The inauguration of WMC's organ donation mission and the completion of the forms will also take place during the conference.

Following the International Medical and Health Forum's programme, the World Malayalee Council will hold a seminar on health and medical tourism. Nine representatives will speak in a joint session on medical, health, Ayurveda, resort, beach, hill, heritage and cultural tourism in Kerala.

The programme will be arranged in three sessions. Dr. Jimmy Lonappan Moylan (UK), President of the International Health and Medical Forum, will chair the conference and welcome the guests. The opening of the medical and health tourism seminars will be conducted by former Minister of Health, Family Welfare and Devaswom V. Shivakumar.

The inauguration of WMC's organ donation mission will be performed by the minister. The one-stop solution system for health, medical, and Ayurveda tourism for expatriates and others will also be inaugurated by the minister. A message will be delivered by Faisal Khan, Pro-Chancellor (MD, NIMS Medicity), at the Noorul Islam Center for Higher Education.

There will be speeches and demonstrations about the one-stop solution system at www.wmchealthtourism.org. A stall for accepting bookings through the WMC's one-stop solution system for health, medical, and Ayurveda tourism will also be set up.

The Medical and Health Seminar will include a talk by Dr. Noble Graceus, Associate Professor of Nephrology at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and nodal officer for organ donation in Kerala. Dr. Semmi Noble Senior, a gynecologist at Ananthapuri Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, will discuss gynecological issues.

Cardiologist Dr. Shifas Babu M, from Ananthapuri Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, and Thiruvananthapuram Medfort Hospital, will speak about heart diseases and recent issues. Dr. Subhash R, Senior Consultant and Surgical Gastroenterologist at SK Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, will give a class on managing the last stages of liver diseases.

Dr. Sharika, Senior Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Consultant at SK Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, will give a class on "Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery."

The ethics of the medical field will be discussed by E. M. Najeeb, Managing Director of KIMS Group. Dr. Manju Thampi, Medical Administrator of NIMS, will talk about health tourism. B. Sreekumar from Quilon Beach Hotel and Convention Center will speak about resorts, hills, backwaters, and beach tourism in Kerala.

Free health checks such as blood sugar, weight, and BP will be conducted by SK Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. A free medical camp in the suburban area of Thiruvananthapuram will also be arranged in conjunction with the conference.
