4 students of Kochi university killed in stampede during music concert

FOUR students were killed in a stampede at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) during a music concert on Saturday evening. Several others were injured, as per officials.

The concert, which featured playback singer Nikhita Gandhi, was held at the university's open-air auditorium.

Emergency services were quick to respond, and the injured were transported to Kalamassery Medical College for treatment. The Health Minister has assured that all necessary arrangements for the victims.

The victims are two boys and two girls. The injured students were shifted to Government Medical College, Kalamassery. The condition of two students is serious and under treatment at the critical care unit, said Ernakulam district collector NSK Umesh. He said that a team of doctors, including the district medical officer, reached the hospital.

Health Minister Veena George said that 64 people were injured in the incident. In addition to this, 18 were taken to a private hospital in Kochi.

Four students were declared brought dead. They have not been identified yet.

According to local political representatives, some students who were rushing to the auditorium fell from the stairs and the others behind them, resulting in chaos and a stampede.
