Modi begins 2-day Singapore visit, emphasizes India as prime investment destination
PRIME Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Singapore on Wednesday for a two-day visit that will focus on empowering the India-Singapore bilateral relations, strengthening strategic partnership, and attracting more investment from the Southeast Asian nation.
This is Modi’s fifth official visit to the country and has been invited by Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
India-Singapore bilateral talks
Modi is scheduled to interact with three generations of Singapore’s leadership highlighting the significance of maintaining consistency in bilateral relationships.
Upon his arrival in Singapore, Modi posted on X, the focus will be on showcasing India’s position as an ideal place of investment, thanks to the ongoing reforms and talent of its youth. Modi’s tour is followed by his historic trip to Brunei, which was marked as a first-ever bilateral tour by an Indian prime minister to the country.
On Thursday, Singapore’s Parliament will welcome Modi and he will later meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
Along with official meetings, the visit will also focus on boosting ties in the fields of sustainable development, digitalization, the semiconductor sector, and advanced manufacturing. On the official trip to Singapore, Modi is accompanied by Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Dhoval.
To create better employment opportunities for India’s youth, MoUs are expected to be signed to improve manpower skills.
