Reporter Live faces probe over distasteful video featuring student

The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has sought a report on a distasteful video that featured a school girl, allegedly a minor, and was aired on Reporter Live, a Malayalam news channel. A source from Reporter Live told TNM that the video has been removed from all platforms. The video was shot during the Kerala State Kalolsavam, the state school art festival, which featured the channel’s Consulting Editor Arun Kumar K and a bunch of reporters. The video begins with Arun making fun of a reporter named Shahabaz and asking him, “Did you see that oppana girl again?” Oppana is a dance form and the conversation revolved around a school kid who performed the dance.  The video has been scripted to look like a movie scene, and is a dialogue between Shahabaz and the girl. The video then shows the reporter flirting. “You look good,” he says, among other things. It ends with a teacher asking the dancers to walk ahead. The video features a romantic song from 2012 Malayalam movie Ustad Hotel. The commission’s chairperson, KV Manoj Kumar told TNM that a notice has been issued to the channel. “Depending on their reply, further action will be taken,” he said. Arun Kumar’s name is mentioned in the notice. The Kerala State Kalotsavam concluded at Thiruvananthapuram recently. When Reporter Live uploaded the video on their social media handles, many people pointed out that featuring a minor in such a video is an offense.
